There are many interesting facts about the state of Minnesota. For one thing, it is known as the “land of 10,000 lakes”. It was the 32nd state to become part of the United States. When people think of the top medical schools in America one of the first ones that comes to mind is the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Mayo is famous for the doctors that graduate from their medical school and people strive for a spot in their psychiatry program every year. In addition to Mayo, there is also the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinics in Minneapolis, and Hennepin County Medical Center, both of which are fine centers of education.

In order to become a practicing psychiatrist in the state of Minnesota you must complete the required amount of time in residency. For instance, if you are attending Mayo you have two programs to choose from: Classic psychiatry or Child and Adolescent psychiatry. Both are four years long. Once you are complete with this step you can also do one of their three fellowship programs.

The overall salary for psychiatrists across the country was $175,000 in 2011. This is according to the BLS. Among the highest paying states in this field are Kansas, Oregon, Indiana and Minnesota. As a psychiatrist in Minnesota your salary would vary depending on several things such as your experience and the place you are employed. However, according to salary.com, the median salary is $205,059.
